70th Birthday Celebrations

Updated: May 22, 2019

There are so many words that we could use to describe the concert held at Colne's Municipal Hall to celebrate 70 successful years of Pendle Youth & Children's Choir; exciting, joyous, emotional, sociable, historical to name but a few.....

It was a day of reunions, memories and special guests with the choir sharing the stage with past members Evie Rapson of folk-jazz duet Me, Thee and E with Tom Gill, as well as bagpipe player Tom Pickup, Cello player Michael Nowland, Colne Orpheus, Nelson Arion, the Burwain Singers and Nelson Civic Ladies Choir. The afternoon culminated in a final rendition that filled the stage with all past members that attended including Samantha Oxborough!

Two members of the original 1949 children's choir, Christine Whinnerah and Christine Corden Brook performed alongside current PYCC members Amy Howard, Kate Overend and Hannah McDonagh Bond as a historical moment of old and new members that have spanned 70 years!

The afternoon was also filled with gifts as Pendle's Mayor and Mayoress, Councillor James Starkie and Janet Starkie presented a cheque for £750 to PYCC and £1'250 to Pendle Schools Festival!

Take a look at some of the photo's below for a flavour of the afternoons celebrations.

Here's to the next 70 years!!!
